# Filter or Sort Detections
Using the filters to play "What If?" can help you discover what happens to your security posture if you add new technology or remove existing technology. You can filter your detections by the data in any column that has a filter icon .

If a column is filtered, the icon has green lines .

You can also sort by *most* columns by clicking on the column name. If you are unable to perform the sort, that means sorting is not supported for that particular column.

If a column is sorted, a green bar appears under the column name.
